Nebraska - Missouri

July 03, 2019 by Papá in Sabbatical 2019

🇺🇸 Having crossed the Missouri River a couple of times we realized that the river was the boundary between Nebraska and Iowa. So, before leaving Omaha, Mommy found a bridge—named Bob—upon which we stood in both states at the same time.

Then we followed the Missouri River southbound towards Kansas City. Along the way we saw the west side of the road completely flooded. The river is overflowing since March and towns and roads are still under several feet of water.

We stopped for lunch along the road, a few blocks away from the flooded area, and in an effort to try something new we ordered fried frog legs. Nicole preferred them to the salmon sandwich we ordered her.

Finally we went to another couple of Church history sites. First, Liberty Jail; and then, the Independence, Missouri, Visitor Center. The Jail is a replica enclosed inside a visitor center that, much like temples, has been dedicated by a prophet. Seeing the jail is very different to hearing about it.

Colorado - Nebraska

July 01, 2019 by Papá in Sabbatical 2019

🇺🇸 Yesterday we enjoyed Denver, CO, starting with a visit to Washington Park and a bike ride. We made time to go to church, and had lunch in a restaurant at the aquarium, which included a mermaid show.

The car grew a bug beard along the road. We found a Ruby Tuesday in Nebraska. We’re also learning to make the most of a few electrical outlets.

At night, while going through the pictures, we found a video that Gabriel put together spontaneously during the third hour on the road.
